The push-fit connectors, tubing, adapters and tees that join a filtration system to your plumbing.
Most water filtration connects with push-fit fittings and semi-rigid tubing, usually 1/4 inch for point-of-use work and larger for whole-house. Push-fit — John Guest style — has largely replaced compression for this because it is fast, reliable and needs no tools.
The rule that saves the most trouble is to cut the tube square and push it fully home. A tube cut at an angle or not seated all the way in will hold for days and then let go, usually while nobody is in. Push until it stops, then push again.
Buy a few more fittings than you think you need. Every filtration job discovers one adapter that was not in the kit, and a second trip out is the commonest reason a Saturday installation becomes a Sunday one.
Best for
- Connecting any under-sink or inline system
- Adapting between metric and imperial threads
- Extending or rerouting an existing installation
- Adding an isolation point where there is none
Commercial installations more often use compression or press fittings for durability at higher flow.

- A tube cut out of square will eventually leak
- Mixing metric and imperial tube in imperial and metric fittings does not work
- Very cheap fittings use poor O-rings
- Cannot be buried in a wall or under a floor

Cut square, deburr, push fully home, tug to confirm it has locked. Then pressurise and watch it for a few minutes before closing the cupboard.
