WaterFilterInstallers.com exists because of a gap that ten years in the water filter and water softener industry made impossible to ignore. Plenty of places will sell you a softener. Almost none will tell you whether you actually need one, whether you can fit it yourself, or how to find someone competent to install it if you cannot.

That gap is the site. It works in the order the problem actually presents itself: find out what is in your water, work out what — if anything — needs fixing, choose kit that suits your property and your budget, and then find someone local to fit it if it is not a job you should be doing yourself.

Hard water in Britain varies enormously over short distances, and it is the single fact that determines most of what follows. A household in Kent and a household in Cumbria have almost opposite problems. Seeing that play out across the country, year after year — the same limescale complaints, the same furred-up boilers, the same people sold the wrong thing — is what prompted this. Nobody should have to live with hard water because they could not find out what to do about it or who to call.

So hardness comes first here, and every product recommendation is downstream of it. Where the honest answer is that your water is soft and you need nothing, the site says so.

We do not install anything. We do not employ installers, take a cut of their work, or invoice for it. When you contact an installer through this site you are contracting with them directly, and the checks you would make on any tradesperson are the checks you should make here too. We say so on every page that carries an installer, because a directory that blurs that line is doing its readers a disservice.

How this site is funded

Two ways, and only two. Amazon affiliate commission when a reader buys a product through a link here, and nothing else. Installer listings are free, enquiries are free, and we do not sell leads, sell featured placement to installers who have not earned it, or accept payment for a recommendation.

That structure is deliberate, because it is what lets this site tell a reader in Glasgow that a water softener would be a waste of their money. A site funded by installer commissions could not afford to say that.

What we will not do

• Invent installer listings. The directory ships empty and fills through registration and verified editorial research. A plausible-looking listing with a made-up phone number is a fabricated business record, and a homeowner acting on it is the harm.
• Award badges we have not checked. A WaterSafe or TrustMark badge appears only where an editor has looked at the official register and recorded the date.
• Scrape other directories. Not Checkatrade, not Trustpilot, not Google Business Profile, not the WaterSafe register. Their terms do not permit it.
• Print a hardness figure we have not verified. Where we have not checked, we give the band and link you to your water company's own official checker.
• Publish thin pages to pad the sitemap. Location pages exist where we have something specific to say about the location, and nowhere else.

Who checks this

Sebastian researches, writes and approves everything here, drawing on ten years in the water filter and water softener industry. Author and reviewer are the same person, and the byline says so rather than implying a second pair of eyes that does not exist.

What that byline does not claim is a professional qualification, an accreditation or a trade registration, because none is recorded — and this site does not present unrecorded claims as credentials. That is the same standard we apply to every installer in the directory, and it would be incoherent to apply it to them and not to ourselves.

Where the material rests on someone else's authority rather than ours, we say whose and link to it. Every water company page carries the supplier's own words about their own supply, with the source and the date we checked. How we verify things.
