Our directory is built from businesses that register with us and from listings our editors research and verify. We will not pad it out with businesses we have not checked, so where we have nobody, we say so.

Every listing has a provenance
Each business is marked as self-registered, claimed, entered by our editors from public sources, or supplied by a partner. You can see which, on every profile.
Verified means we checked
A WaterSafe, WIAPS or TrustMark badge appears only where an editor has looked at the official public register and recorded the date. Otherwise it says "claimed, unverified" — because that is what it is.
We never pad the results
If there is nobody near you, we say so and point you at the national registers instead. A directory that always finds someone is a directory that is making it up.
